Bíborka Lina Gacsályi | Hypnagogia

solo exhibition

Bíborka Lina Gacsályi graduated in 2023 from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts with a degree in Graphic Arts. Her main focus is on relationships — both between people and between individuals and their environment. Observing these dynamics serves as her primary source of inspiration. She is particularly interested in how external influences affect an individual’s psyche, with the theme of personal memory recurrently appearing in her work. She often prioritizes conceptual depth over technical execution, primarily working with traditional graphic techniques but frequently incorporating analog and digital photo-based methods as well. The photo-based montages presented in the exhibition Hypnagogia reflect a graphic perspective. This series is a continuation of her earlier work Insomnia, which explores the transitional state between wakefulness and falling asleep. In the exhibition’s artworks, figurative elements initially tied to reality gradually transform into ominous visions and nightmare-like scenes. Drawing from her own experiences, the artist creates compositions that verge on abstraction, offering viewers space for personal and subjective interpretation.

The exhibition is part of the official program of the Budapest Photo Festival 2025.
