Márton Barabás | Photos, book-objects and installations

solo exhibition

Of the two series of photographs taken at the beginning of Márton Barabás' career, the images of the "Piano Burning" action have only appeared in a catalog and Hungart's small monograph; they have never been on view. The action documentary "Hommage à Marcel Broodhaerts" has not been included in a catalog, or a solo exhibition. Photographs of the linear space next to the post office on Városház Street or the steps of the Frankfurt Postal Museum have appeared in smaller exhibits and catalogs. They are now presented together with the original objects and more recent arrangements. The works bordering sculpture and installation will also appear in field photographs. The interactive sculpture installations created at the art camp in Tolcava, Cered, are documented by stills. This year's series of planar sculptures, The Friesian Horsemen of the Parthenon, allude to paintings of the 1980s that evoke antique sculptures but are objects of today. Similar rhythm patterns of piano mechanics join the sculptural friezes as another melody. The internal structure of the piano continues to offer many new formulas. Its previous, continuous flow is replaced by syncopated rhythms. For the last 20 years, Márton Barabás has also been making book sculptures and artist books. His latest book works, which are on the border of sculpture and object, will be on view.
