Swarming

solo exhibition

András Végh, Munkácsy Prize-winning visual artist, balances his painting on the boundary between figuration and non-figuration. His work is most closely associated with abstract expressionism, surrealism, and art brut, and within it, one can discover calligraphic, gestural, and drawn motifs alongside uniquely abstract shapes. His paintings, rich and saturated in colour, are characterised by the idea of horror vacui — the expressive filling of the pictorial surface. Végh is interested in the dynamics of human motivations and relationships, which in one way or another always appear on his canvases. The inner world of the soul is essential to him; he seeks to uncover his own existential experiences as well as those of the people around him, to gain insight into anthropological processes. Starting from his subjective, intuitive microcosm, he presents macrocosmic contexts and the historical and cultural dimensions he has encountered during his travels. At the same time, and sometimes even as a counterpoint to this, he introduces playful motifs as a kind of resolution, reflecting the complexity of life. He conveys his passionate emotions and lived experiences through the abstraction of colours and forms in an expressive way. Vibrant colour tones are always primary in his works, defining their inner world and serving as a means to create harmony. His current exhibition, Swarming, on view at the Faur Zsófi Gallery, reflects the life-affirming spirit of the Mediterranean world, which holds great importance for him. It embodies a thought process that gravitates toward nature and humanistic values, portraying life’s reality in a down-to-earth manner.
